Our Bill W plants

The two Swedish Ivy plants at Cafe North tell a story of hope in recovery in a wonderfully new way.

Bill W, the father of all things AA, died on January 24, 1971 in Miami, Florida. A swedish Ivy plant had been growing in his hospital room. His wife Lois took it home and cared for it for more than 10 years.

It eventually ended up in the care of Michael M, with a request from Lopis to pass it on to AA members in memory of Bill. Michael shared cuttings and others did the same.

The plants now show up in AA meetings, people's and home and places of recovery all over the world. At Cafe North they remind us that we are part of a much bigger community of people in recovery, regardless of whether we go to AA.
